Clayton is a city in Montgomery County and Miami County in the U.S. state of Ohio. At the 2000 census the city had 13,347 inhabitants. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. 1998 Clayton merged with the remainder of Randolph Township.

Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead is located in Clayton. In this book, Clayton is represented as an archetype of the rural United States, in contrast to cosmopolitan New York City, where most of the action takes place.
