Cleistocactus samaipatanus

Cleistocactus samaipatanus is a flowering plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The epithet refers to the type locality to Samaipata in Bolivia.

Description

Cleistocactus samaipatanus forms the basis of branched groups with several erect stems, reaching stature heights up to 1.50 meters in diameters from 3.5 to 4 centimeters. The low quergefurchten, 14 to 16 ribs are 2 mm high and 7 mm wide. On them sit at a distance 3-4 mm, the areolae, which initially are above brownish tomentose. From them arise radiate 13 to 22 thin, unequal spines 4-30 mm in length. These are whitish - ashy, pale yellowish or brownish.

The 4 -inch-long flowers are very schiefsaumig and have narrow, looser and recurved, spitzliche sepals are purple. The corolla is slightly compressed. The linear petals are blood red and are up to 15 millimeters long. On a basic tube Wollring is available. The stamens are in two rows and have dark purple anthers. The stylus does not protrude.

The small, spherical fruit is 9-11 mm long and 7-9 mm wide. They are densely white - and braunwollig with an adhesive residue and contain tiny flowers, blackish - brown or black seeds.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Cleistocactus samaipatanus is widespread in the lowlands of the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz at altitudes from 1000 to 2000 meters.

The first description was made in 1951 by Martin Cardenas under the name Bolivicereus samaipatanus. David Richard Hunt presented the type 1987 in the genus Cleistocactus.

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, than not led at risk.
