Clément Janequin

Clément Janequin (* about 1485 in Chatellerault, † 1558 in Paris) was a French composer of the Renaissance.

About Janequin youth nothing is known. From 1505 he was a clergyman in Bordeaux in the service of the humanist Lancelot du Fau and 1534 was Kapellmeister of the cathedral of Angers. Finally he joined in 1549 in Paris in the service of the Duke of Guise. From 1555 he was a member of the royal court orchestra of Henry II

Its about 400 songs, of which already appeared in his lifetime many prints have made him widely famous. Several composers of subsequent generations used his works as the basis for their own work. With the Chanson La guerre Janequin composed the music for the Battle of Marignano, in 1515 documents in which the Confederates the Franco- Venetian army under Francis I.. The piece is known primarily for his vocal implementation of battle sounds like horn signals, shouts and noise of weapons attack.
