Clinton Jackson

Clinton Jackson ( born May 20, 1954 in Nashville ) is a retired American boxer.

Career

Amateur

Jackson was a four-time U.S. champion, 1974-76 welterweight ( -67 kg ) and 1977 in the light middleweight ( -71 kg ). 1974 and 1975 also was North American champion.

At the World Championships in 1974 after Jackson won victories over Mike McCallum, Jamaica, and Zbigniew Kicka, Poland, and a final defeat against Emilio Correa, Cuba, the silver medal. For this defeat, then Jackson could return the favor at the Pan American Games in 1975 when he hit Correa in the semi-finals (4:1). After a final victory over Kenneth Bristol, Guyana (5-0 ), Jackson won the gold medal. At the Olympic Games in 1976, he thus went as one of the favorites in the race and also reached the quarter-finals easily. Here he met the later silver medalist Pedro Gamarro, Venezuela, where he was defeated 3-2 judges' votes.

Professional

1979 Jackson pro, but never fought for such success as to his amateur time. He lost to every major opponents such as James Shuler, Sumbu Kalambay and Buster Drayton. 1985 Jackson ended his career.

Others

Jackson worked for a time as a deputy sheriff. He was accused of kidnapping and extortion and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1989. The result of his last parole hearing in 2011 is not known.
