Clitheroe

Clitheroe ( pronunciation: [ ˌ ɹəʊ klɪðə ] ) is a town and municipality in the district of Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. It lies on the southern edge of the Forest of Bowland and is the main entry point for tourists. Due to its proximity to the geographically most central village Dunsop Bridge is claimed that Clitheroe is the central city in Britain.

Industry

Clitheroe has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the UK. This is largely due to the establishment of several companies, each providing several hundred jobs, including UltraFrame, Castle Cement, Tarmac, Dugdale Nutrition and Johnson Matthey.

The company Castle Cement has been criticized in its furnaces for the combustion of industrial waste, in the opinion of the locals created this toxic dioxins. Despite control measures by the company, the residents still use it to set these terms.
