Clock tower

Clock Tower is the name for a tower carrying a large, readable from a distance clock tower. It is also the name of Clock Tower in Sighisoara, for example, Transylvania. In the Balkans, built under Ottoman rule clock towers are called Sahat - Kula.

Clock towers had earlier, as only a few have their own clocks possessed, an important function for the local population. Especially in Ottoman cities, where there was no church steeples, towers were usually built solely for this purpose. In Europe, prominent towers were often subsequently provided with watches. Most free-standing clock towers often have dials on all four sides and had earlier according special movements.
