Clyde Cameron

Clyde Robert Cameron AO ( born February 11, 1913 in Murray Bridge, South Australia, † 14 March 2008) was an Australian politician of the Australian Labor Party.

Career

Cameron was since the 1930s in the Labour Party and the Australian Workers ' Union is active. He belonged to the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1980 for the constituency of Hindmarsh, which covers the western suburbs of Adelaide. Since the 1960s, he was a member of the shadow cabinet of the Labour Party. From 1972 to 1975 he was several times minister in the government of Gough Whitlam: 1972-74 Minister of Labour, 1974-75 Minister of Labour and Immigration and 1975, Minister for Science and Consumer Affairs.

1987 Cameron the title Officer of the Order of Australia was awarded for his services to the government and politics.

Cameron was buried on 20 March 2008 in a state funeral in Centennial Park Cemetery in Adelaide.

Cameron's brother Donald Newton Cameron was 1969-1977 Labour MP in the Senate, his nephew John Rau, since 2002 a Labour MP in the House of Representatives of South Australia, in 1993 was in the constituency Hindmarsh as a deputy candidate at the federal level and narrowly lost.
