Clyde Geronimi

Clyde Geronimi ( born June 12, 1901 in Italy, † April 24, 1989 in Newport Beach, California ) was an Italian- American illustrator and animated film director. He is known for his work at the Disney Studios.

Life

Geronimi was born in Italy. He emigrated even as a young child in the United States. Geronimis earliest works were for the J. R. Bray Studios, where he worked with Walter Lantz.

Geronimi left Bray in 1931 and went to the Walt Disney Studio, where he remained until 1959. Geronimi began at the studios for animated short films before he was animation director. His 1942 short film published, Lend a Paw, won the Oscar for best animated short film.

After the end of World War II moved to Geronimi directed feature-length animated films. He worked on Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Peter Pan and many others.

After leaving Disney in 1959, he worked for a long time in television and has directed many episodes of the animated since 1967 Spider- Man series. He retired in the late 1960s by the drawing and only supplied children's books with his own illustrations.

Geronimi won the 1978 Winsor McCay Award from the Association internationale du film d'animation, ASIFA - Hollywood Section, for his lifetime achievements in the field of animation. The award was presented to him by his longtime friend and colleague Walter Lantz.
