Cobbs Creek

Cobbs Creek at Nitre Hall

The Cobbs Creek is a small tributary of Darby Creek in the State of Pennsylvania. The Native Americans called it " Karakung ".

It rises at Garrett Hill in Delaware County and flows from there towards southeast to Sharon Hill, where it flows into the Darby Creek. Its headwaters crosses the County with a few hundred meters distance parallel to the border with Montgomery County. After crossing under the U.S. Route 1 he marks up to his mouth, the boundary line between Philadelphia and the Delaware County.

The Cobbs Creek has some small inlets, these are from the left of Naylor's Run, the Indian Creek and Mingo Creek, and from the right of Thomas Run Creek and the Creek Paschall. These have been channeled mainly to the Indian Creek to the turn of the century due to heavy settlement activity and overbuilt.

Between Garrett Hill and Upper Darby, the river runs parallel to the Norristown High Speed Line. The plans for the construction of Interstate 695, along the lower reaches of a highway existed since 1930, but the mid-1970s were abandoned due to criticism in the population.

In West Philadelphia, there is a neighborhood that is named after the river and is also called Cobbs Creek. It is located on the left bank south of Market Street and walk down to Baltimore Avenue.
