The University of Applied Sciences Coburg ( Coburg University briefly - until October 1, 2011 University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Coburg ) is a university established in 1971 in the northern Bavarian city of Coburg with more than 4,400 students (as of WS 2012/13 ).

History

The Coburg University traces its tradition back to the private Friedrich Streibsche Institute of Baugewerbsleute, the court architect Friedrich Streib founded in 1814 in Coburg. The school had the task of preparing construction workers on the master rights. After the death Streibs the court painter Georg Konrad Rothbart founded a successor agency of the name Ducal Baugewerkschule led from December 1852. The school was housed in the stone alley 20. Classes were initially held in the winter months, from 1909 in the summer. In 1903 the curriculum of the Prussian Baugewerkschule was adapted, which had the right to employment in the Prussian civil service result.

After 1918, the institution was named State Baugewerkschule. By the union of the State of Coburg with the Free State of Bavaria on July 1, 1920, the name changed again in State Building School. 1928 came to transform to a technical college for the training of architects and technical staff for the private sector, as well as technical officials for the empire, state, and community service. From 1933 to 1939, the school was called the Higher State Technical College for civil engineering and from 1940 Staatsbauschule. After the Second World War, she became the first Bavarian State School resumes teaching operation with 193 students. From 1951 on she was called Staatbauschule - Engineering School of Civil engineering.

On 18 July 1959, the State of Bavaria, the city of Coburg, the Coburg and Neustadt bei Coburg concluded an agreement on the dissolution of the Institute for Teacher Training in Coburg, whose numbers between Bavaria and the former Free State of Coburg in the State Treaty of 14 February had been agreed in 1920. Alternatively, the parties agreed the extension of the State School Coburg to a Polytechnic.

From 1 October 1963, the school took the name of State Polytechnic Coburg. In May 1967, the inauguration of the new buildings of the Engineering School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the Friedrich - Streib -Strasse, which cost about 20 million DM followed. With the establishment of colleges eventually came on 1 July 1971 the Coburg University in its present form.

Under the umbrella of the new university, the Polytechnic Coburg and textile specialist and Engineering School Munchberg was united; Coburg in the existing engineering curricula and degree programs in the training study business and social services have been added. The newly established Department of design courses such as interior design and Integrated Product Design moved in the fall of 1999 as a tenant in the restored Hofbrauhaus one.

On 1 March 2000, the Department Munchberg was affiliated with the Faculty of Textile Technology and design Hof University.

In the winter semester 2012/13 the new Bestellbau for the courses Architecture and Civil Engineering was purchased. Together with the Hofbrauhaus, where the programs are housed Interior Design and Integrated Product Design, is the ensemble of the campus design.
