Coccidiphila riedli

Coccidiphila Riedli is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 6-9 millimeters. The front wings are ocher yellow. The Costa loader is gray from the wing base to about the second third addition. In the anal fold, there is a dark gray spot. The wing base is dorsal ocher yellow. The very obliquely outwards line is very broad.

In the males the right brachium is longer than the Tegumen. It is strongly curved distally and has a fin-like appendage. The left brachium is very small. The very narrow Valven have an expanded, spatulate cucullus which is bent upwards. The Valvellae are slightly curved and distally wide strong. The narrow and pointed apex is bent at right angles. The aedeagus is slightly tapered at the top.

In females, the rear edge of the 7th sternite has a large, U-shaped bulge, the side edges are rounded and thorny. The sterigma side has large, triangular praise. The front edge is concave, the posterior lobe rectangular. The corpus bursae is densely covered with crescent-shaped comb structures.

Similar Species

Coccidiphila Riedli differs from Coccidiphila gerasimovi, Coccidiphila ledereriella and Coccidiphila danilevskyi by the absence of dark gray scales on at the base of the forewing inner margin. From Coccidiphila kasypinkeri the species differs by the absence of the yellow spot in the gray cost Alber calibration.

Dissemination

Coccidiphila Riedli is in the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria, Tenerife ) home.

Biology

The caterpillars were found between dead leaves of Ceballosia fruticosa. It is thought that they live on the Cape Plumbago ( Plumbago capensis ). Moths were collected from February to April.
