Cocytius is a genus within the family of butterfly moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The genus Cocytius includes some of the greatest visionaries of the world. The proboscis of the animals is very long, suggesting that they are responsible for the pollination of flowers langkelchiger ecological importance. The long probe taper towards the tip which is strongly curved hook-shaped. The third segment of the labial palps is clearly visible on both sides of the head and is reminiscent of horns.

Occurrence

The genus is distributed from Argentina to the south of the United States. Two of the six species, Cocytius antaeus and Cocytius Duponchel arrive in North America, the latter type, however, only as irregular guest.
