Coelho Neto

Henrique Coelho Neto Maximiano Henrique Coelho Neto Maximiniano ( born February 21, 1864 in Caxias, Maranhão, Brazil, † November 28, 1934 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian writer. His most important work, published in 1914, the novel Rei Negro ( Black King ). The two present on German short story collections include several fantastic novels, such as " The Tapera ".

Life

In 1890 he was appointed Secretary of the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and in the following year to the Director for international affairs. In 1892 he was appointed professor of art history at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes and later professor of literature at the Colégio Pedro II. As the author of numerous books, articles, stories and series, he became in 1910 professor of theater history and dramatic literature at the Escola de Arte dramatica and soon afterwards head of the institution.
