Coghuf

Coghuf (actually Ernst Stocker, born October 28, 1905 in Basel, † 13 February 1976 Muriaux ), was a Swiss painter and sculptor. He designed tapestries and stained glass windows.

Life

Ernst Stocker is a son of the gardener and platoon leader John Stocker and the younger brother of Hans Stocker. From 1920 to 1924 he served an apprenticeship as a locksmith and made sculptural experiments with Louis Weber. From 1925 to 1927 he stayed in Paris with his brother, worked as a locksmith. He closed his acquaintance with Jacques Lipschitz. He also undertook studies at Willi Baumeister. Under the pseudonym Coghuf he devoted himself entirely to painting. In 1928 he became a member of the artist group founded again Red-Blue II From 1927, he created murals on public buildings, including the image "movement" for the Basel main post office. it was followed by several stays abroad, including from 1931 to 1932 in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere. In 1934 he co-founded the short-lived group of artists BBZ 8, 1935, he moved in with my free mountains over 1946 to 1976 he lived in Muriaux. In 1957, he designed several stained glass windows, some tapestries and enamels.

In 1939, he married Hedwig Rudin. Your marriage produced ten children.
