Coin watch

As Münzenuhr, also Münzuhr a clock is called, which is embedded in a coin or medal.

Description

A Münzenuhr is usually produced by a coin is horizontally divided in two different thickness plates. The movement is then embedded in the milled thicker part. The two plates are connected by a hidden hinge. The works of such watches must be extremely flat. When closed, the clock is completely hidden and the coin looks like any other one.

History

Coins watches were often made in the first half of the 19th century in Switzerland. In Geneva 1835-1840 so small and thin movements were built so that they could find a place in an English sixpence coin. From the same period the thaler of Friedrich Emil watches Roetig from Hachenburg are known.

Today also watches that have only the dial in the form of a coin, sold as Münzuhren.
