Colchicum corsicum

The Corsican saffron ( Colchicum corsicum ) is a flowering plant in the genus of the Timeless ( Colchicum ) in the family of crocus plants ( Colchicaceae ).

Features

The Corsican Timeless is a perennial plant with an underground tuber sprout. The sprout tuber is up to 3 inches long, 2 inches thick and has a brown shell. There are usually 3 to 4 leaves available. They appear only after flowering and are narrowly lanceolate, glabrous, up to 8 inches long and 9 (18 ) mm wide. The number of flowers is usually 1 or 2, rarely 3 The are 20 to 27 (40 ) mm long and 2-5 mm wide, colored ( purple ) pink and not patterned. The stamens have 2-4 (8 ) mm long filaments and 2 to 5 millimeters long yellowish dust bag.

Bloom time is from September to October.

Occurrence

The Corsican Timeless occurs in Corsica, and possibly also in Sardinia. It grows on dry meadows on silicate rock.
