Cold Chisel

Cold Chisel (English for metal chisel) is an Australian rock band.

Band History

Cold Chisel was founded in 1973 in Adelaide, South Australia, but later changed the location to Sydney. With her first, published in 1978, LP, the band placed immediately in the Australian charts. In the 1970s and 1980s, they had a few hits. Their success, however, was essentially limited to Australia and New Zealand. Neither the United States nor in Europe succeeded in their records the way into the charts. The double live album Swing Shift in 1981 with a mix of boogie and blues gave the band gigs, in Australia they toured with Rod Stewart, in the U.S. they were with Ted Nugent and Cheap Trick on the road and in Europe they were the opening act for Slade to see. In Germany they gave in 1982 included a concert at the Rockpalast series. In Australia they were in 1982 only to sell out crowds. In April 1983, it came at a concert as part of a motorcycle festival to massive riots.

Despite great success in Australia, the band broke up in 1984. Jimmy Barnes began a successful solo career and since then is one of the most famous Australian rock singers, his appearance at the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics earned him a worldwide audience. Don Walker had in the late 1980s some minor success with the band Catfish, in its various projects he was getting back together with Ian Moss. Steve Prestwich was a while for touring band by John Farnham. The plates of Cold Chisel remained salable after their separation in Australia, which was closely connected with the career of Jimmy Barnes. Having appeared for years repeatedly compilations and as yet unpublished material on new boards, the group produced in 1998 with The Last Wave of Summer, a new album that was made popular with a sold-out tour of Australia. According to a recent joint appearance of Cold Chisel in 2005 at a charity concert for the victims of the tsunami of 26 December 2004, the band split for a second time.

From a joint appearance in 2009, a collaboration that was not the end with the death of drummer Steve Prestwich in January 2011, again developed. A year later published the four remaining band members, the seventh studio album titled No Plan.

Cold Chisel are considered as typical representatives of the Australian pub rock. Minted is their music from the rough voice of their singer Jimmy Barnes and the guitar playing of Ian Moss. The strong rhythm and Jimmy Barnes ' voice is the earthy side of music, sophisticated lyrics about everyday life in Australia and pronounced vocal harmonies but are also proof of a quite high artistic standards.
