Colin Welland

Colin Welland ( born July 4, 1934 in Leigh, Lancashire, now Greater Manchester, England), actually Colin Williams, is a British screenwriter, actor and former art teacher.

Life

Welland came to television in 1962 and starred in the series Z -Cars a policeman. In the same year he married Patricia Sweeney, with whom he would later have four children. His first feature film experience as an actor he made in 1969 released movie Kes, for which he received the British Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1971. His screenplay also was honored for TV series Play for Today. In the years 1970, 1973 and 1974 he was voted the best TV screenwriter in the UK.

In 1979 he played in the TV movie Blue Hills Rememberd a child and romped in shorts through forests and fields.
