Colwyn Bay

Colwyn Bay ( Welsh: Bae Colwyn ) is a town and a seaside resort in northern Wales in the UK. At the last census in 2001 it had a population of 9,742.

History

Before the government reorganization in April 1974, Colwyn Bay, a municipal borough (main church ) with about 25,000 inhabitants. After restructuring in 1974, the term Municipal was dissolved and Colwyn Bay was with four other cities in the Welsh name for Parish, communities, renamed. These cities are:

  • Llysfaen
  • Mochdre
  • Old Colwyn
  • Rhos -on-Sea

The five communities together have a population of 28,992, which is usually referred to as "the population of Colwyn Bay".

Attractions

Main attractions are the Victoria Pier Colwyn Bay, a Kaizunge which extends 227 meters into the sea, and the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

Others

Colwyn Bay was three times (1910, 1947, 1995). Hosted the National Eisteddfod of Wales, one of the most important festivals of literature, music and song in Wales The tradition of the Eisteddfod dates back to the 12th century, but was almost forgotten in the meantime. Only in the 18th century, it was revived in the context of romantic movements.

Language

Almost 24 percent of the population speak English in addition to the official language, and Welsh.
