Comic book archive

The comic -book format ( from the English Comic Book Format ) is a file format that consists of a compressed archive file, and pictures for sequential viewing - contains - especially comics. The archive can be compressed in different file formats.

An archive with the file extension. Cbz ( for Comic Book Zip ) consists of a regular ZIP file that contains images for viewing in order of alphabetical names of the image files. If the file archive has been created, however, in a different format, the extension will change accordingly:

  • . cbz → ZIP
  • . → cbr rar
  • . cb7 → 7z
  • . cbt → TAR
  • . cba → ACE
  • . CBTC → TrueCrypt container
  • . cvbdl → bundle folder (Mac OS X)

Thus, it is possible to image files in PNG or JPEG format many individual comic pages or other images series ( such as digital picture books ) in a single file together, so that the entire document can be easily shared and browsed comfortable with an appropriate program.

If one possesses not have a viewer for comic -book format, so it is perfectly possible to unzip the archive and view the images with a regular image viewer. This may require before the file extension will be replaced by the default assigned by the Pack program.

The format is directly supported for example by the document viewer Evince (Linux / GNOME), ocular ( Linux / KDE) and Sumatra PDF ( Windows).
