Comisión Nacional de la Competencia

The Spanish Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (CNC) (literally: National Commission for Competition), based in Madrid, the Spanish competition authority that exists in its current form since 2007. The Authority was set up as an independent competition authority by law of 4 August 2008 ( 15/2007 de Defensa de la Competencia ).

The Spanish Competition Authority (CNC) imposed in February 2012 as a result of 2010 filed by the Island Council of Ibiza suit a penalty over 54 million euros. The penalty was one cartel and thus illegal price fixing against five ferry imposed for education, connecting the Balearic Islands to the mainland and the islands themselves. The illegal price fixing relating to the whole of the maritime transport sector, freight and passenger transport. Among the five shipping companies, the Baleària that Trasmediterránea and Isleña Maritima de Contenedores are ( Iscomar ). The highest sentence relates to the Trasmediterránea ( Acciona Trasmediterránea ) with 36 million euros, followed by the Baleària with 15.9 million euros.

Predecessor authorities

By 2007, the Competition Tribunal (Tribunal de la Competencia ) was responsible for the protection of the competition.
