Spatelliest ( Tanysiptera galatea )
The Spatelliest ( Tanysiptera galatea ) is a kingfisher species in New Guinea and the neighboring Moluccas. We distinguish several subspecies. The Elliotliest and Biakliest were formerly attributed as subspecies the Spatelliest.
Features
The Spatelliest reached a size of 22 cm. He has a red beak, a blue forehead, a white hull and dark blue wings. His long tail feathers - characteristic of a Paradieseisvogel - are white - bluish.
Occurrence
The habitat of the Spatelliestes are low-lying forest areas in New Guinea and the neighboring Maluku islands (including Halmahera and Seram ). Its diet consists mainly of insects, which it catches on the ground.
