Comproportionation

A comproportionation - also called synproportionation - is the opposite of disproportionation. Both are special cases of a redox reaction. When comproportionation an oxidation state intermediate is formed by simultaneous reduction and oxidation of a higher and a lower oxidation state of two atoms of the same element.

Examples

An example is the reaction of the Iodatometrie, wherein the acid solution is reduced in the same oxidized and iodate iodide. Iodine in the product is present in the oxidation stage ± 0. The Roman numerals above the reaction equation indicate the formal oxidation numbers.
