Concepción on the map of Paraguay

The city of Concepción is located on the Río Paraguay and capital of the departments of Concepción in Paraguay.

The city has around 76 378 (2008 ) inhabitants. It was founded on May 25, 1787 by the Governor Agustín Fernando de Pinedo to prevent an advance from the north of Brazil and pacify the Indians of the region. She experienced her recovery but only in the early twentieth century by Italian immigrants and is now a center in the north of Paraguay with a river port. The Paraguayan civil war began in 1947 in Concepcion, it is therefore also called Revolución de Concepción ( Revolution of Concepción ).

From 1909 to 1960 combined a narrow gauge railway, Ferrocarril del Norte, Concepción with Horqueta. In May 1988, a bridge over the Río Paraguay was inaugurated.
