Conception Island, Seychelles

Conception Iceland is a small island about two miles off the west coast of Mahe, the largest island of Seychelles located. The island is about 1.5 km long, up to 600 m wide and has an area of ​​0.603 km ² ( 60.3 ha) on. Administratively it belongs, together with its neighboring island of Thérèse, the administrative district of Port Glaud.

How many islands in the Seychelles was also Conception Iceland until the 1970s, a coconut plantation. Today it is a Naturschautzgebiet and home to many species of birds such as the rare Mahé glasses bird ( Zosterops modestus ), the Paradise Fruit Dove ( Alectroenas pulcherrima ) or the Madagascar Turtle Dove ( Streptopelia picturata ).
