Conchita Supervía

Conchita SUPERVIA (* 1895 in Barcelona, † 1936 in London) was a Spanish mezzo-soprano.

Career

She began her vocal studies already twelve years at the conservatory of her hometown Barcelona. 1910, she debuted with a Spanish tour troupe in Buenos Aires. In 1911 she attracted attention when she appeared with sixteen years as Carmen by Georges Bizet in Bari. In the same year she sang in Rome in the Italian premiere of Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss, the role of Octavian.

Between 1927 and 1933 she recorded more than 200 records. Most famous are their excerpts from Carmen and arias from operas by Gioachino Rossini. In 1931 she married an English industrialist and moved to London. In 1934, she turned in England the film Evensong. She died at only forty years after the birth of her child.

In addition to her portrayal of Carmen, it was mainly roles in operas by Rossini, which SUPERVIA had great success. You helped then -forgotten works such as La Cenerentola and L' Italiana in Algeri to a renaissance.
