Confucius Peace Prize

The Confucius Peace Prize (Chinese孔子 和平 奖/孔子 和平 奖, Pinyin Kǒngzǐ Heping jiǎng ) is a named after the Chinese philosopher Kong Fu Zi award, which is awarded in the People's Republic of China. You should honor people who promote peace and the peaceful understanding between peoples.

Background

The establishment of this award is brought by Western observers, especially that of China sharply disapproved award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Chinese political activist Liu Xiaobo in conjunction. The Chinese Peace Prize is to act as a counterweight to the consideration by the Chinese government as politically abused award of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Prize Committee

The Confucius Prize Committee is composed according to media reports from 16 Chinese personalities. The committee members also Kong Qingdong, a 73 -year-old professor of Chinese literature and direct descendant of the philosopher Confucius in 73 generation belongs.

Award winners

The first winner in 2010 was the former Taiwanese Vice President Lien Chan, who, however, according to his office did not know the Confucius Peace Prize and also do not answer it personally liked (English: it knew nothing of the prize and he would not be traveling to China to pick it up ) other candidates Mahmoud Abbas, Bill Gates, the Penchen Lama and Nelson Mandela were. 2011 Vladimir Putin was awarded the Confucius Peace Prize. He himself was not present at the award ceremony. In his place, took two Russian exchange students accepted the award.

2012 was the Confucius Peace Prize to Kofi Annan and Yuan Longping.
