Conneaut is a city in Ashtabula County in the U.S. state of Ohio. The city lies on the southern shore of Lake Erie at the mouth of the river Conneaut Creek, just a few kilometers from the border to the eastern state of Pennsylvania. The city has 13,000 inhabitants (as of the census of 2000). For area of the city includes more than 11 km of coastline of Lake Erie, it beaches, boat ramps and tourist summer operation. The city area is crossed by Interstate 90, which runs south of the city center.

History

Conneaut is located on an old Native American trail that was used by European settlers on their way west. 1747 was located near the present village of Conneaut Missisauga, a related with the Chippewa tribe.

In the 19th century, the port of Conneaut, together with the ports of Cleveland and Ashtabula is the most important ore port on Lake Erie, while Toledo and Sandusky were the most important coal port.
