Constantine L'Empereur

Constantine L' Empereur van Oppyck also: van Opwijck ( born June 1591 in Bremen, † July 1, 1648 in Leiden ) was a German Reformed theologian, philologist and orientalist.

Life

Constantin was born as the son of originating from Brabant and from there distributed Antonius Caesar, was also called the Imperator. About his first education is not known. In 1607 he enrolled at the University of Leiden to a philosophical foundation course literature perform. In order to graduate theological studies, he set out on 8 April 1614 John Drusius to the University of Franeker. Here he received his doctorate at March 24, 1617 as a doctor of theology and took over on October 7, 1619 a chair of theology and Hebrew at the Gymnasium Illustre in Harderwijk. He lectured on dogmatics and wrote in 1626 a Systema theologicum.

On February 9, 1627, he was professor of Hebrew and Chaldean at Leiden University. 1628 he was a Grammatica Chaldaea et syra bring out, which probably should be used for educational purposes. In addition, he had dealt with the writings of the rabbis and developed a keen interest in Arabic and other oriental languages. In his capacity as the Leiden university teacher, he also participated in the organizational tasks of the Leiden University and was 1638/39 Rector of the Alma Mater.
