Constantinos Apostolou Doxiadis

Konstantinos Apostolos Doxiadis (Greek Κωνσταντίνος Δοξιάδης, born May 14, 1913 † 28 June 1975) was a Greek architect and urban planner of modernity. He is best known as the principal architect of the Pakistani capital Islamabad and the city of Rawalpindi. Later he turned to architectural theory. The office Doxiadis Associates exists to this day.

Life

Doxiadis graduated in 1935 from the Technical University of Athens and earned his doctorate at the Technical University of Berlin a year later. In 1936, he was a city planner city of Athens, and from 1940 to 1945, he worked as a town planner in the Ministry of Construction. From 1945 he was director of various building programs. With Doxiadis Associates he made in 1951 independently. Later he became a professor at Oxford.

After he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, he worked intensively with this incurable disease to support researchers.
