Constitution Day (Denmark)

The Grundlovsdag ( in German Constitution Day ), the Danish National Day on June 5. However, he is not a public holiday. Between 1891 and 1975 the Grundlovsdag was officially a half- holiday. Nevertheless, close shops and authorities on this day in whole or earlier.

Even after the introduction of the Danish Constitution (June fundamental Loven ) on June 5, 1849 signed by King Frederik VII larger gatherings and celebrations were held on the anniversaries of the launch. The introduction of the Constitution marked the introduction of a constitutional monarchy and the abolition of absolutism that had existed since 1660.

Since the 1870s the Grundlovsdag was increasingly being used for party political meetings, which until today is largely the case. Every political party holds the Grundlovsdag from one or more events.
