Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe

The Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe is a diocese of the Episcopal Church similar device. It includes all U.S. Episcopal churches in continental Europe. Until 2009 it was called Convocation of American Churches in Europe.

The Presiding Bishop is the head of the Convocation, its supervision is sometimes delegated to a resident in Europe suffragan bishop. The current holder of this office is Right Reverend Pierre Whalon. He is the first bishop of the Convocation, who was elected by a Convocation Convention before he was appointed by the Presiding Bishop.

The Convocation maintains along with the other dioceses of the Anglican Communion in Europe close cooperation:

  • Diocese of Gibraltar in Europe, Church of England
  • Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain
  • Lusitanian Church of Portugal

The five bishops of the four jurisdictions included in 1994 for the College of Anglican Bishops in Continental Europe ( COABICE ) together. Everyone was auxiliary bishop in one of the other dioceses. Likewise Whalon exercises the office of assistant bishop in the Catholic Diocese of the Old Catholics in Germany.

Churches, missions and members

There are eight full-fledged parishes and several other missions. The communities are located in five European countries: Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and France. Overall, the Convocation include 3,857 members (as of 2010).
