The Eibischblättrige bindweed (Convolvulus althaeoides ) is a plant from the family of wind plants ( Convolvulaceae ).
Description
The herbaceous plant with procumbent or twining, slender and hairy stems forming up to 1 meter long shoots. The change-constant leaves are distinctly stalked, the lower are heart - ovate sinuate.
The shape of the upper leaves differs depending on subspecies:
- Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. althaeoides has rather shallow lobed leaves with wide notched up sections
- Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. tenuissimus has to midrib deeply lobed leaves with narrow sections
The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry, five petals stand up a threesome on axillary peduncles, which are about 6 inches long, and thus longer than the leaves. The overgrown deep pink petals form a funnel-shaped crown that is about 4 inches long. The capsule fruit is hairy.
The flowering period is April to July.
Occurrence
As the site dry and cultural wastelands are preferred. The range of this Mediterranean type includes the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean. In the eastern part Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. tenuissimus more common.
