Cooler

A cooler is a portable container for cooling various food and drinks and other products requiring refrigeration things. Coolers are used in leisure, sports, traveling, or even to transport medical samples and transplantable organs.

Due to the relatively low temperature inside a temperature rise caused by penetrating heat is unavoidable despite the insulation. This is either passive active balanced by the insertion of pre-chilled freezer packs with high heat storage coefficient (eg, a special gel or saturated salt water) or by a cooling unit. Three different technologies are used:

  • Compressor
  • Absorber
  • Peltier.

The latter are particularly inexpensive and therefore most widely used. They have a small heat sink for absorbing heat inside and a slightly larger heat sink for heat dissipation outside the cooler. This is usually mounted in the cover and glued to the Peltier element itself. The advantages of the use of Peltier elements are a very thin, light and customizable in size design ( cut to size ), long life due to lack of mechanical parts (except any fan), gases and liquids, silent operation (except for any fan), the insensitivity to position angle changes and the relatively inexpensive production measured at the output. A disadvantage of the use of Peltier elements, that the maximum possible cooling capacity is directly dependent on the outside temperature ( formation of a temperature difference ), thereby, a strong fluctuation of the internal temperature, and in comparison to other cooling technologies very high power consumption. Also often save control and regulating components, such as a temperature sensor due to the objective of the inexpensiveness, and the cooler is running at full power as long as it is connected to the current. Due to the strong formation of condensation on the inner heat sink, it can quickly lead to ice formation, which reduces the cooling capacity, as well. Due to the constant condensation moisture to rust

Absorber coolers can also be ( for example, cartridges) operated alternatively with gas in addition to the operation of electricity (12 or 230 V) often.
