CoolType

Cool Type is a graphics technology, more specifically, a sub-pixel hinting process by Adobe Systems in order to increase the readability of fonts on color LCDs like laptop or TFT monitors, in particular to reading longer texts to facilitate as e-books. But readability on CRT displays is improved.

The technique is based on the sub-pixel technology, in which the three primary colors red, green and blue are driven so that the resolution is increased up to three times and thus more can be gained in sharpness than the fine color bleeding they lower. CoolType is comparable with ClearType from Microsoft and Quartz from Apple.
