The Coongan River is a river in the north-west of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is located in the Pilbara region.

Geography

The river rises north of the Chichester Range about 30 km west of the small town of Nullagine and initially flows north, west past the town of Marble Bar, to the settlement Eginbah at the Rippon Hills Road. There he spent his run northwest through the Gorge Range and flows south of the ghost town of Goldsworthy in the Mulyie pool and thus into the De Grey River.

The Coongan River does not the water all year round. The town of Marble Bar branches annually from approximately 180,000 cubic meters of water from the alluvium of the river. History

The river's name goes back to the Aborigines, and was first mentioned in 1878 by Alexander Forrest. The original owner of this area was the Aboriginesstamm the Njamal or Nyamal.
