Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon River Basin

The COICA ( Coordinadora de las Organizaciones indigenous de la Cuenca Amazónica ) is an organization that represents the interests of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon. It was founded on 14 March 1984 to integrate the work of the national indigenous organizations and to coordinate and to defend the rights of self-determination and territorial rights of indigenous peoples in national and international bodies.

The member organizations in the various countries bordering Amazonas are:

  • Peru: AIDESEP ( Asociación de Desarrollo de la Selva Interétnica Peruana )
  • Venezuela: CONIVE ( Consejo Nacional Indio de Venezuela)
  • Guyana: APA ( Amerindian People's Association of Guyana)
  • Colombia: OPIAC ( Organización de los Pueblos de la Amazonia Colombiana indigenous )
  • Brazil: COIAB ( Coordenacão the Organizações indigenous da Amazônia Brasileira )
  • Suriname: OIS ( Organization scopes van Inheemsen in Suriname)
  • Bolivia: CIDOB ( Confederación de los Pueblos de Bolivia indigenous people )
