Coosa River

Overview of Mobile, Alabama and Coosa River

The Coosa River is formed by the confluence of the River Oostanaula and Etowah River at Rome, in the northwest Georgia, in the southern Appalachians. At about 90 % it runs in the neighboring state of Alabama, where he is one of the most used rivers. There he runs nearly north along the state capital of Montgomery with the Tallapoosa River to form the Alabama River. Alabama Power operates six dams on the course of the river to generate electricity. The biodiversity of the river suffers from these interventions in nature.

The origin of the river is the confluence of several tributaries of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau: the Conasauga and Coosawattee, which together form the Oostanaula, and the Etowah.
