Copargo

Department

Copargo is a municipality in the northwest of Benin in the department of Donga.

Geography

The municipality covers 876 km ² and is bounded by the municipalities Kouandé ( in the north), Djougou (south and east) and Ouaquè ( in the west). In addition Copargo bordered to the west by Togo.

The landscape is dominated by the foothills of the Atakora mountain range. The rest of the municipal area is flat. Two seasons determine the climate: the rainy season from mid-April to mid-October and the dry season ( mid-October to mid-April). The rainfall varies between 800 mm and 1300 mm, 1500 mm in the tip are measured, most precipitation there in August and September. The municipal area there are some small rivers (mainly during the rainy season ): Affèou, Yari, Gbangbaré, Saguigui.

Population

In Copargo 58 064 people ( as of July 2011), which corresponds to a population density of 66 persons per km ². Members of the Taneka ( Yom ) and Lokpa represent 83 % of the population. Other ethnic groups are Fulbé (7.2%), Hausa (1.4 %) and Sola, Boufalé, Bariba and Fon. The traditional religions (including Voodoo ) are practiced by 70 % of the population. , Moreover, there are 18% Muslims and 8 % Christians.

Administrative organization

The municipality is divided into four administrative districts Anandana, Copargo, Pabégou and Singré; these districts include 28 villages and the administrative center Copargo. Mayor is Monsieur Idrissou Seibou, Deputy are Prospère Itokoume and Moussa Bukari.

Infrastructure

Through the municipal area leads to about 20 km the paved highway from the coast to Burkina Faso. The remaining connections are sometimes very bad slopes, some of which are impassable during the rainy season. Electricity is only available in the places Pabégou, Copargo and Singré (since 2011). Open wells, water holes, small sandpipers and single closed well with pump off the water supply. Only in Copargo and Singré there are two elevated water tank and thus running water for public buildings and a small proportion of the population.

There are 75 primary schools which are partly in a catastrophic structural condition. In Copargo and Pabégou there is in each case a CEG, to which the financial statements with the Abitur is possible.

A Hospital, led by Fabien N'tia ensures medical care. In addition, there are five health centers Pabégou, Copargo, Singré, Anandana and Kpassabia who are under the direction of Fabien N'tia also.

Copargo continues to have its own police station and a post office.

Partnerships

An intensive twinning was established in 2006 with the Saarland community Losheim. In 2010, the municipality signed a partnership with the Development Assistance Benin eV The partnership has a term of 10 years. The CEG in Copargo concluded in 2005 a partnership with the Peter Dewes Comprehensive School in Losheim. The CEG in Pabégou and oak leaves school in Weiskirchen 2010 also signed a school partnership.
