Copperas Cove is a city of Coryell County and is located in the state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The distance to the eastern cities of Killeen and Fort Hood is 10 or 15 kilometers. 80 km northeast lies Waco, 80 kilometers south of Austin. The main thoroughfare U.S. Highway 190 runs through the town. Since the area is mountainous, Copperas Cove also City of Five Hills calls.

History

First residents requested the authorities in 1879 their settlement to establish a post office and a retail store under the name Cove. This was not approved because a place of the same name near already existed. Then the name Coperas Cove was registered as mineral springs were present in the vicinity, but changed in 1901 to the now valid Copperas Cove. With the connection to the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway is the place experienced an economic boom. After the first inhabitants had initially lived mainly from agriculture, the Fort Hood military base is the main employer today.
