Coryell County, Texas

The Coryell County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Gatesville.

Geography

The County is located about 50 km north-east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2737 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bosque County, McLennan County, Bell County, Lampasas County and Hamilton County.

History

Coryell County was formed in 1854 from parts of Bell County. It was named for James Coryell, a frontiersman who was killed by Indians.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 74 978 people in Coryell County. Of these, 16,932 people lived in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 19,950 households and 15,780 families.
