Madison County (Texas)

The Madison County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Madisonville.

Geography

The County is located east of the geographic center of Texas, about halfway to Louisiana and has an area of ​​1224 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Leon County, Houston County, Walker County, Grimes County, Brazos County and Robertson County.

The County has three natural boundaries: east of the Trinity River, west of the Navasota River and south part of the Bedias Creek.

History

Madison County was formed in 1853 from parts of Grimes County, Leon County, and Walker County. It was named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in Madison County 12,940 people in 3,914 households and 2,837 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 142.6 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 155.1 males.
