Camp County, Texas

The Camp County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) located in Pittsburg.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Texas, both located 70 kilometers from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. It has an area of 526 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Titus County, Morris County, Upshur County, Wood County and Franklin County.

History

Camp County was formed in 1874 from parts of Upshur County. It was named after John Lafayette Camp, a Texas politician.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 11,549 people in Camp County in 4,336 households and 3,156 families. The population density was 23 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made ​​up of 69.53 percent White, 19.20 percent Black or African American, 0.35 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 9.63 percent from other races groups; 1.07 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.78 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.

The median income for a household was $ 31,164, and the median income for a family was $ 36,142. Males had a median income of $ 31,870, women $ 18,797.
