Schleicher County, Texas
The Schleicher County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Eldorado.
Geography
The County is located about 40 km east of the geographic center of Texas, situated about 60 km to the south of Mexico and has an area of 3395 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Tom Green County, Menard County, Sutton County, Crockett County and Irion County.
History
Schleicher County was formed in 1887 from parts of Crockett County. It was named after Gustav Schleicher, an early engineer, surveyor and lawyers in Texas.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Schleicher County 2,935 people in 1,115 households and 817 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 76.59 percent White, 1.53 percent African American, 0.07 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 18.98 percent from other races groups; 2.62 percent were descended from two or more races. 43.54 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,115 households out of which 34.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 62.6 percent were married couples living together, 7.5 percent were single mothers and 26.7 percent were non-families. 25.4 percent of all households and 12.8 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.12 persons.
27.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.3 percent between 18 to 24, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44, 24.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,746, and the median income for a family was $ 37,813. Males have a median income of $ 28,412, women $ 22,250. The per capita income was $ 15,969. 16.0 percent of families and 21.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
