Gregg County, Texas

The Gregg County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county administration is in Longview.

Geography

The County northeast of the geographical center of Texas, about 40 km off Louisiana, 60 km and 80 km in front of Arkansas before Oklahoma. It has an area of 716 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Upshur County, Harrison County, Rusk County and Smith County.

History

Gregg County was formed in 1873 from parts of Upshur County. It was named for John Gregg, a hero of the Confederate army in the American Civil War.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Gregg County 111 379 people in 42 687 households, and 29,667 families. The population density was 157 people per square kilometer.
