Hudspeth County, Texas
The Hudspeth County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Sierra Blanca.
Geography
The County is located in western Texas and New Mexico bounded on the north and south to Mexico. It has an area of 11,841 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Otaro County in New Mexico, Culberson County, Jeff Davis County and El Paso County.
History
Hudspeth County was formed in 1917 from parts of El Paso County. It was named for Claude Benton Hudspeth, a statesman, senator from El Paso, Rancher, and publisher of a newspaper.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Hudspeth County 3,344 people in 1,092 households and 841 families. The population density was 0.3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 87.23 percent White, 0.33 percent African American, 1.41 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian, and 8.76 percent from other races; 2.09 percent were descended from two or more races. 75.03 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,092 households out of which 45.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 63.0 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers and 22.9 percent were non-families. 21.1 percent of all households and 8.3 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.30 and the average family size was 3.56 persons.
34.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.9 percent between 18 to 24, 26.7 percent between 25 and 44, 20.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 9.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 102.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 21,045, and the median income for a family was $ 22,314. Males have a median income of $ 22,862, women $ 18,594. The per capita income was $ 9,549. 32.6 percent of families and 35.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
