McMullen County, Texas

The McMullen County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Tilden.

Geography

The County is located in south Texas, is in the southwest about 70 km from Mexico and to the southeast about 100 km from the Gulf of Mexico. It has an area of ​​2959 square kilometers, of which 77 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Atascosa County, Live Oak County, Duval County and La Salle County.

History

McMullen County was formed in 1858 from parts of Atascosa County, Bexar County and Live Oak County. It was named for John McMullen, an Irish founder of a colony in Texas.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 851 people in McMullen County; there were counted 355 households and 238 families. The population density was 0 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.4 percent white, 1.2 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American and 8.9 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. 33.1 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
