Hidalgo County (Texas)

The Hidalgo County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Edinburg.

Geography

The County is located in the south of Texas, on the south by Mexico and the east is about 50 km from the Gulf of Mexico. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Brooks County, Kenedy County, Willacy County, Cameron County and Starr County.

History

Hidalgo County was formed in 1852 from parts of Cameron County. It was named after Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who proclaimed Mexico's independence from Spain.

Demographic data
