Glasscock County, Texas

The Glasscock County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Garden City.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Texas, about 100 kilometers off the southeastern border with New Mexico, and has an area of ​​2333 square kilometers, without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Howard County, Sterling County, Reagan County, Midland County and Martin County.

History

The Glasscock County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named after George Washington Glasscock, one of the first settlers in the area around Austin.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 1,406 people in Glasscock County in 483 households and 355 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.5 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.2 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 19.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.5 percent were descended from two or more races. 29.9 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
