Ward County (Texas)
The Ward County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Monahans.
Geography
The County is located in western Texas and is approximately 25 km to the north front of the south-eastern tip of New Mexico removed. It has an area of 2165 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Winkler County, Ector County, Crane County, Pecos County, Reeves County and Loving County.
History
Ward County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named after Thomas William Ward, a president of the allocation of real estate management, a soldier during the Texas Revolution, and a mayor of Austin.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Ward County 10,909 people in 3,964 households and 2,929 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 79.79 percent White, 4.61 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 0.28 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 12.52 percent from other races groups; 2.11 percent were descended from two or more races. 41.98 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,964 households out of which 36.6 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 58.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.6 percent were single mothers and 26.1 percent were non-families. 23.6 percent of all households and 12.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.15 persons.
30.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 to 24, 25.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,386, and the median income for a family was $ 36,014. Males have a median income of $ 31,373, women $ 18,198. The per capita income was $ 14,393. 15.8 percent of families and 17.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
